Disgusting. On so many levels. And what's been lost in all the accounts of this I've read is the fact that "Hindu" isn't even a god, it's a word to describe an adherent of Hinduism. What an idiot.I also would also pray, Lord, that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their god--whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah--that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they're going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you will step forward and honor your own name with all that happens between now and election day.
And never mind the fact that Obama is Christian!
It's looking like they're going to need some divine intervention to win this election, based on how things stand today.

I agree though, that this is disgusting. At least it wasn't McCain himself giving the prayer.
Thanks for pointing that out. In my shock at the stupidity of referring to the god "Hindu," I overlooked the Buddha one.
I know that McCain didn't give the prayer himself, but it shows what kind of people are going to McCain/Palin events and working for the campaign. It gives us insight into what exactly is at stake this fall for so many Republicans and their visions of what America should look like (i.e., WASP-y).

I expect that for every religious gaffe of that nature on the Republican side there is an equal and opposite one on the Democrat side.
